Question: I have a corn on my foot (on my thumb). I've had this problem for a month now. I've tired to dip my foot in hot water with epsom salt. What should I do? Thanks.
Brief Answer:
Corn-caps; Paring procedure

Hi there XXXXXXX
I glean that you have a corn on your foot since a month on your big toe & it is ? painful.
You will definitely require an 'intervention' of sorts ...either 'excision' or 'paring'.
The former is a surgical procedure performed bby a general surgeon or a dermatologist & involves complete excision & suturing of the wound. I personally prefer the latter which involves basically 'exfoliating' or 'removal' of the surface layers of the skin using a blade gently layer by layer till the 'root' of the matter is reached..usually not deep enough to require any suturing & an office-procedure.
Both these can be kept on hold & you could try using a 'corn-cap' on the area as per the company instructions...Scholls' is a standard company with good corn-cap removers. Try this for 1-2 weeks before you go in for an office-procedure together with a pedicure that may just rid you of your problem.
Good Luck & here's wishing you 'happy feet' soon :)

Thank you Dr. Rodrigues.
Yes the corn is paingul when I walk cause of pressure. I tried putting the corn cap but what it does is that it make the skin around it white ang gooey and doesn't really help the corn. In fact, there is burning feeling once I put it on.
Should I be putting it on during the day and take it off at night? I haven't tried Scholl's brand so far. You think using this specific one would be better?
Brief Answer:
Corn Felt Pads; Excision/Paring recommended
Detailed Answer:
Heya XXXXXXX
Yes..putting it on during the day & takinfg off at night will certainly help.
Also, try putting it on for a day & skipping the next 2-3 days to avoid the maceration. If you have tried these for a week or two, then time to get it removed as i suggested.
Scholl's is a brand reputed for good products in this section. For pain relief, you may want to try the scholls' "corn felt-pads" or "corn-cushions" that basically contain NO medication but when applied on the area form a "ring" (akin to a tyre tube) around the corn & dissipate the pressure thereby decreasing the pain. Do try this as it will be useful pre & post surgery too.
Good Luck & if you were in Bangalore, would have sorted your foot out in no time but trust you can use this HCM website to source out a dermatologist closest to you. Cheers!
