Question: I used a 2 year old eye shadow makeup last week made my eye feel a little funny thought nothing of it until a stye came up on the lower eyelid first and one coming up on the upper lid. started a sterile lubricant eye ointment on 3/22 and TMP/SMZ 160MG-800MG Generic for BACTRIM < i had left from an infection on 11/13 when they changed me to another antibiotic. i am a diabetic on 20mg long last insulin once a day and 1000 mg METFORMIN twice daily. don't want this eye infection to get out of hand

Eye being a very delicate/ important organ for a happy, independent life.Your concern is natural. Stye is a condition arising from blockage of oil glands at the base of eye lash. In your case I see two possibilities. _ on each cosmetic product," best/use before” instruction is given. Also after use care of the pack is vital in case of the product is to be reused for eye. Use of 2 year old product might have induced- - Blockage of the gland opening, - being polluted with bacteria/ viral spores it has caused infection. The result is stye formation. Stye usually is gone in 8-10 days time. Its repetition suggests infection/low resistance/ uncontrolled diabetes. This makes the management is important for you. * check your blood sugar & be sure that sugar is in normal limits. * take sugar free/ vitamin rich/high protein diet. * Home management- Hot compress is the first thing that will help in beginning. -Wash affected eye lid with tap water & mild soap. - Put Erythromycin ointment in the eye. Do not touch the tube to affected eye OR do not use same tube for both eyes. - - Avoid sharing face towels, - Wash & clean hands before you touch your eye. * in case the sty is not clear within one week/ there is pus formation/ there are multiple sties/ there is affection of conjunctiva DO VISIT an Ophthalmologist & take his help. After examining you eye & pathological tests (CBC, swab culture) if indicated, he will prescribe proper antibiotic (Locally/orally) along with pain relieving /anti inflammatory drugs which will control your condition.
