Question : I swallowed a chicken bone last night and it feels like it is still stuck sideways in my throat. I can swallow and breath but when I do swallow food it feels like some of the food pushes back up onto the back of my tongue. I am a female, 53 years old, 5' 10" tall in good health and weigh 200 lbs. I am not having any pain but it feels like I have a chronic lump in my throat. As I have gotten older I have felt it is more difficult to swallow at times .... It seems like things like pills have a tendency to swish around in a pocket at the back of my throat and are then difficult to swallow. Perhaps that is where this bone is stuck.

Detailed Answer:
hello and thank you for sending the question.
Since it seems that you might have this bone stuck in your esophagus I think it is extremely important that you report to your local emergency room for evaluation.
If the bone continues to remain in the esophagus there is a risk that it could cause bleeding or further problems which should be addressed as soon as possible.
you still have the symptoms today I do suggest that you go to your local emergency room for evaluation. They may request the doctor looks inside your esophagus with a camera and if the bone is there he can potentially remove it.
Sincerely,
Dr.G
