Brief Answer:
yes alcohol is likely cause in this case

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

The commonest cause for acute pancreatitis is alcohol with or without gall stones. Other common causes are drugs, trauma, endoscopy(endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography - ERCP). Less common causes are infection, hereditary, hypercalcemiea and pancreas developmental abnormality.

History suggests that person is already suffering from alcohol related liver disease. In such cases pancreatitis is common. We just need to rule out any drug history for confirmation that alcohol is responsible for this problem.
For confirmation of diagnosis serum amylase and lipase are required investigations. Even they indicate recovery and prognosis. I recommend going for these investigations soon.

Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.
Regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.
