Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for your query.
Chikunguniya has two phases of illness. An acute phase with fever, headache, body ache and other symptoms. This lasts about 10 days.
This is followed by a chronic phase in which there is pain and stiffness of joints. This phase may last weeks, months or even an year or two.
The treatment during the acute phase is mainly supportive with paracetamol or Naproxen to reduce the fever and the aches. Eating wholesome food and drinking plenty of fluids would also help. He should avoid dehydration and should consume adequate calories, vitamins and minerals for his body to be in a fit condition to fight the virus.
If he goes on to develop the chronic phase, then chloroquine has been found to be helpful to reduce the period of illness. Other medicines like Ribavirin and Methotrexate also have been used but may have more side effects.
Do get back to me if you have further queries.

Thanks for the response.
I have another query, if he is feeling a little giddy while he stands up or sleeps.
Is it also one of the symptoms?
Or do we need to take extra care for this?
His current body temperature is 102 degrees.

Brief Answer:
Due to dehydration and drop in standing BP

Detailed Answer:
You are welcome. The dizziness is due to the fall in blood pressure when he stands up and is a sign of dehydration. Give him more fluids preferably as ORS. The high temperature also produces dilatation of blood vessels leading to drop in blood pressure. Use paracetamol and tepid sponging to get the temperature down.
