Suggest Ways To Assess And Prevent The Development Of Disabilities In A 10 Month Old?

default

Question: Dear Doctor, My 10 months old boy just went for ultrasonic scan as regular check. There's no abnormal found for the brain, the 2 lateral ventricles were stable at 15.5mm and the third ventricle is decreased from 12.8 to 10mm comparing to last month. It has been 3 months for monitoring, that the lateral ventricles were stable from 15 ~ 16mm. And his head circumference had changed from 46cm to 47.5mm unitl now. He's late in movement (cannot seat with balance at 9 months old), so we got him for physical therapy. Now he can seat for few minutes and stand with support. Last MRI scan when he was 8 months old found no issue with his brain. Does my son need more test for analysis, what I should do for now? Sometime I feel he had difficulty in breath when sleeping at night. Thank you very much for help, Regards.

Brief Answer:

Proper developmental therapy can be provided after developmental assessment.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns.

It is a good thing that you have arranged for developmental therapy for the child.

Let me tell you that early detection and early intervention is very essential in prevention of development of disabilities.

You need to take him to a centre for child development wherein they would be able to assess each of the parameters of gross motor development, fine motor development, receptive language, expressive language etc.

Based on the findings he needs to be given developmental therapy, speech and language therapy and other supportive measures.

Various scales like XXXXXXX II are used for developmental assessment which usually need to be periodically followed up upon.

Brain abnormalities are not always detected and even if they are, there is hardly anything that can be done about it.

Hope I have answered your query.
