Question: Hi, After consulting with doctor, who confirmed Blood Pressure as a cause, we started Amlovas 5 mg for my father . This was 2 year ago. Since past few days, my father is having high BP 174/94 today and 172/92 yesterday. Also it seems his breathing rate is also increased. When we consulted doctor today, he asked to start new medicine - Telista MT 25 and Ecosprin AV 10 . Is it the right medicine for this condition. Only ECG was carried out before deciding the change of medicine. Doctor has asked us to carry out other tests like Haemogram, BSL, Lipid Profile, Echo Stress Test. Should we wait for test results of these tests and then start the new medicine

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Welcome to HCM.
I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Don't wait for the blood reports. It will not change much of your prescription. But the report recommend are absolutely necessary and your doctor has done everything right. Carry on!!

My advice to you is -

1.After starting this medicines your father should go for 24 hrs blood pressure monitoring, so that we can know his whole day and night blood pressure fluctuations.

2.Increased breathlessness and respiratory rate may be secondary to heart problem or simply due to uncontrolled blood pressure. So stress echo is necessary along with all blood reports.

3.Regular daily brisk walking, exercise and healthy diet will control blood pressure in Longterm.

So, Telista MT (telmisartan plus metoprolol) is a good antihypertensive drug, start it.

Thank you.
Any further questions from you is always welcome.

Kindly read my detailed answer.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome back.

Ecosprin(aspirin) is a blood thiner in a common man terminology which prevent heart attack and stroke in high risk patients. As such you have not shown me his ecg, so I can't comment without that. But when patients have symptoms of breathlessness on walking or pain we usually start prophylacticly until patients undergo all investigations adviced.
I can't find any indication at present. (no ecg seen)
Mostly aspirin will do acidity problem and prolonged bleeding when trauma occur.

Telesta MT is as such safe medication. Side effect is bradycardia, high potassium level, Exacerbation of Asthma etc.

Thank you.
I thought I have given you satisfactory answer. If you think same, kindly rate answer.
Have a nice day.
