Suggest Ways To Deal With Aggressive Behavior During Therapy

Question: My 45 year old daughter has been hospitalized 4 times since March 7, 2016.
On March 7 she took 24 Trazadone and was not considered a suicide attempt; just a mistake.
On April 18 after I picked her up at the hospital following the 4th hospitalization, during constant raging at me, she screamed me "I am going to kick your ass out of this car!"
Can I go for conservatorship? Is this considered a danger to self and others?

Brief Answer:
This is considered a danger

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

I am sorry this is going on with your daughter. If she is making or has made threats, and if she is still unstable, then yes, this is a danger to others.

Conservatorship is a legal process, appointing guardianship for someone who is mentally or physically incapacitated. You would have to prove that she is incapable of managing herself. The appointment is made by a judge.

I suggest starting by talking with her psychiatrist (be sure to tell him/her about the threat) and then talking with the social worker from the hospital where she was recently discharged. The social worker will know more about the legal aspects of this.

If, at any time, you feel unsafe with her, best to call the police and in that way it will be documented too.

I hope this information helps. I would have left your question for one of our psychiatrists to pick up, but all of the psychiatrists we have are from XXXXXXX and they are not familiar with the legal system here.
