Brief Answer:
not likely due to significant disease such increase only slight

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

The reading is 104, with a normal range of 1 to 96. This means, as you mentioned, it is only slightly above the normal and is not likely indicating that there is any significant disease present.

It is made in the pancreas and in salivary glands. Mainly used to assess the pancreas for inflammation, not looking at the liver.
Also can be affected by the gallbladder.

Increased levels are due increased production or decreased clearance.

Levels can be high for different reasons.
(1) peptic ulcers in the stomach
(2)pancreatitis
(3)gallbladder attacks
(4)intestinal obstruction- blockage of the intestines
(5)pancreatic duct obstruction
(6)inflammation of the salivary glands
(7)kidney or liver failure so it is not being cleared from the body- these appear fine according to your blood results

Because your value is close to the upper limit, it is possible that repeating the test in a few weeks- months would show improvement.

If you have a history of peptic ulcers (reflux symptoms) then treating these would help reduce it
If there is a history of abdominal pain in keeping with gallbladder disease, then treating the gallbladder disease would help

Summary:(1) value only slightly above so not likely indicating any serious disease
(2) if have a history of peptic ulcer, gallbladder disease or any of the areas mentioned then treatment of these specific conditions would help

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

Thank you very much for your prompt reply. I feel comforted. I was also concerned with the NEU (30.8) and LYM (62.1) count in my WBC which was within the normal range at 6.2. The doctor here said that these differentials were irrelevant as long as the WBC was normal. I was however not satisfied on the significant respective decrease and increase in the neutrophils and lymphocytes. Could you please offer me a better explanation? Many thanks.

Brief Answer:
if the total is normal then everything is usually ok

Detailed Answer:
HI

Neutrophils and lymphocytes are types of white blood cells (WBC).

If the total white cell count is normal then this means that there is no infection or cancer related to white blood cells present.
The total is the most important aspect

The breakdown is mainly used if the total WBC is abnormal for eg an infection can be viral, bacterial, fungal etc
If the WBC is high, indicating an may be infection is present, the break down is then used to determine which type- neut tend to go up in bacterial infections, lymph go up in viral infections

Normal WBC- no infection, no leukemia or no lymphoma likely either

Allergies cause an increase in eosinophils

Slight variations in the different type of white blood cells can occur ,this is ok once total is fine.
