Suggest Ways To Lower High Blood Sugar Level Of 378 Mg/dL

Question: I have type 2 diabetes. under control with metformin and trujeo. my problem is right now my blood sugar is extremely high 378. I have bronchitis which was not responding to anything. I was prescribed prednisone, which I know shoots my blood sugar up, but I had not recourse. I have been on it for 3 days, just started day 3 reducing my prednisone to 2 pills for next three days. I was able to lower my high blood sugars prior to today. I have just taken my third pill of medformin (500 mg 3x a day) and there doesn't seem to be any lower of my blood sugar level. I am drinking plenty of water, I don't know what to do next.
Brief Answer:
Start rapid insulin before meals;
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking!
I can understand your concern.
While you are on prednisone therapy the diabetes treatment should be modified in order to maintain normal blood sugar.
You need to increase the dose of toujeo and get prescription by your physician for rapid insulin to be injected before each meal as toujeo is not enough to correct the blood sugar after eating.
Blood sugar may persist high for some days after discontinuation of prednisone.
So try to see your physician again to get rapid insulin's.
Hope the information will help.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
