Suggest Ways To Manage The Side Effects Of Norflox
After 5 tablets he seems to be better. He has stopped coughing persistently. Is coughing only once in a while. However I am concerned with the side effects of Norflox and would like you to advise me if I should carry on giving him this antibiotic or should I change it.. I was travelling in remote areas of XXXXXXX and had no other option. Please advise.
Stop antibiotic please - this is not a bacterial infection
Detailed Answer:
Hi....I understand your concern. By what you quote this doesn't seem like a bacterial infection at all. So no need to give an antibiotic. Please stop it.
Thus seems more like an acute exacerbation of wheezing.
He might get benefitted a short course of steroids. But as you say he's already getting better, probably he might not need it too.
I have a few questions for you.
Questions:
1. How many days per month do the kid cough or feel breathless?
2. How many nights per month do the kid’s sleep get disturbed due to above symptoms?
3. Does the kid feel breathless when running around or plays with other kids?
4. Are the symptoms when there are seasonal changes?
5. Is there any family history of asthma or any other sort of allergies like skin allergy etc.?
Kindly get back with answers so that I can guide you better.

My question what do I do now...cause I am also aware that Norflox has side effects.. but if I stop it will he start coughing again. Like I mentioned I have given him 5 tablets so far..
If there is another medicine please let me know
I also need to know if Norflox tz will cause any problems to him in future . Right now there are no visible side effects.
Allegra 120 was stopping the cough for brief periods. If you say that it is not a bacterial infection, is it some kind of allergy
So please let me know the future course of action. What medicine should I give him to ensure that the cough does not come back.
Suggestions on allergy
Detailed Answer:
Hi.... I definitely feel that this is not a bacterial infection and this is acute allergy, which is involving the airways. That is the reason why he is coughing a lot. It could have been triggered by climatic changes or by a viral infection.
My suggestions on allergy -
1. Syrup Levosalbutamol 5 ml thrice a day for 3 days.
2. Tablet Monteleukast 10 mg once daily in the evening for 10 days.
3. Tablet Levocetirizine 5 mg once daily at night for 3 days.
But all these are prescription drugs and you will need a local doctor's prescription for it. This interaction is not a prescription and I suggest you consult a pediatrician regarding the prescription.
For the dose and duration of the antibiotic you have given I do not expect any major side effects. So do not worry about it. But from next time please do not start antibiotics without proper evaluation or blood culture.
