Suggest Ways To Minimize Bad Effects On Toe Post An Injury

Question: I have dropped something quite heavy on my big toe. It bends and doesn't hurt right now, probably because I've put ice on it How long should I keep icing it and what else can I do to minimize bad effects?
Brief Answer:
Ice for 7-10 days, limb elevation
Detailed Answer:
Hi there.
Thanks for the query.
You can ice it for a week. After that you can gently bear weight on the region.
Keep your limb elevated for the same period. You cab take Tylenol to help with the pain. It has hardly any side effects and will definitely help.
I hope I have answered your query.
I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Thank you for your prompt reply.
What does "icing" for a week entail? How often and for how long each day? Also, how much to elevate? 18 hrs after the incident, my big toe and second toe do not at all hurt, but they are somewhat swollen and black and blue. I don't think I will lose the nail.
I have been walking in the apt, but as little as I can. Again, the toe feels numb, but there is no real pain.
Thank you

Brief Answer:
Ice wrapped in thin cloth half an hour every 3 hours elevate 30 degrees
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX XXXXXXX
Apply ice wrapped in a thin cloth over the painful regions intermittently for about half an hour every 3 hours.
Keep the limb elevated about 30 degrees from the bed level.
If there is severe pain in the nail, you can get that collected blood released to relieve the pain at an Emergency room.
