Brief Answer:
buprenorphine,propranolol & benzo will help

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Thanks for writing to us. I congratulate you for taking step to quit smoking. Really good decision for your health and future.

10 years is a long duration and 10 cigarettes per day is also good quntity.Considering this you may have some withdrawal features if you stop cold turkey.

You have two options.

You can stop cold turkey with medicines which can stop/reduce withdrawal features. Medicines include buprenorphine, propranolol and low dose benzodiazepine with multivitamin and laxative if needed.
Buprenorphine and benzo are prescription medicines. They should be taken under doctor's supervision. In initial 10-15 days dose changes needed according to withdrwal features every 2nd or 3rd day. After being stable from withdrawal, you should be counseled about relapse prevention. For all these you need to consult psychiatrist/deaddiction specialist in personal.

If you are very well motivated and want to quit without medicines on your own, decrease one cigarette per week until you reach five cigarettes per day. After that reduce one cigarette per two week. And after 10 weeks you can stop. This approch will do not cause significant withdrawal. After stopping completely you may feel some discomfort for a week. However if you feel withdrawal features like anxiety, restlessness, uneasiness , low mood etc during this approch , consult psychiatrist/deaddiction specialist for medicines as described above.

Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.

Dr.Chintan Solanki.

Brief Answer:
Yes you need to consult doctor in personal

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mr. XXXXXXX ,

Thanks for follow up query. Yes of course you should go with medicines and stop smoking as soon as possible.

I can understand your concern for medicines. But sorry for limitation from our side. Online prescription is not valid for such medicines. As well this approch required changing in dose of medicines initially according to severity of withdrawal features. It is better to take these medicines after consulting doctor and with written prescription. If any problem or side effect occurs by chance, your treating doctor can help immediately.
By profession a psychiatrist is also deaddiction specialist. You can consult that doctor and start treatment.

Hope this answers your query. I will be glad to answer if any doubt yet.

All the best.
