Suggest Ways To Remove A Cyst Along The Neckline
Question: Hello about 6 weeks ago my plastic surgeon removed a small cyst along my neckline. He used a dissolvable stitch PDS type. In one part of the incision I developed a small abrasion in which the skin opened up about 4 mm. The area below is still rather puffy and it emits a clear odorless liquid each day. Usually in the morning. My surgeon says the liquid is the body's way of dealing w the foreign object still dissolving. Should I be concerned so many weeks after the procedure? The other dissolved stitches do not seem to be causing any issues
Brief Answer:
Could be because some part of cyst wall was left over
Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us
I am dr.kakkar (dermatologist).
I have gone through your query and I have noted your concern.
There is a possibility that some part of cyst wall was left over and probably it may have developed some secondary infection.
I would suggest a week of oral antibiotics and if it does nt stop oozing then it may well have to be opened up and remove the remaining cyst wall.
Regards

I am applying medÃ-honey to the affected area. The skin is closing up slowly. Each morning I find the area is expressing the clear liquid and therefore it is slightly less puffy
Brief Answer:
Oral and topical antibiotic
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
I would suggest you to take a course of an oral antibiotic e.g either amoxicillin 500mg or cephalexin 500mg, thrice daily, for a week. Topically you may use an antibacterial cream e.g 2% mupirocin cream or 2% fusidic acid cream, twice daily.
