Suggest Ways To Rule Out ADHD
Question: I have a question.
I have extremely high (out of range) levels of both Serotonin, and Dopamine, and low-low normal levels of GABA and norepinephrine. The question is, is it possible for me to have ADHD, despite the fact that ADHD is usually tied to low levels of Dopamine?
The reason I'm asking, is because I have a majority of the symptoms related to ADHD- all of which are rather severe-, and have suspected of having it for a long time.

Brief Answer:
Biochemistry of ADHD
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HCM
Low level of dopamine is related to symptoms of ADHD. However, people with higher dopamine levels can also get ADHD symptoms. This is because of the Dopamine transporter proteins which attaches to the Dopamine, and prevents its transmission from one neuron to another in brain. So, in effect even though too much dopamine is present it cannot be utilized adequately.

Thank you for the answer.
Could there be any other factors that contribute to my ADHD symptoms? For instance, I have rather high/high normal levels of glutamate too, along with the other levels I have previously stated in my last question (extremely high serotonin, low/low normal GABA and norepinephrine).

Brief Answer:
follow-up consultation
Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
Some other factors contributing to ADHD include genetics, low dopamine, low dopamine receptors in the brain and low norepinephrine and GABA levels.
However, for diagnosing ADHD, the levels of neurotransmitters will not be assessed. The diagnosis is based on clinical symptoms. Please let me know the symptoms you are experiencing so as to be concerned about ADHD.
