Question: 1. approximately one or twice a week - when I go to sleep - I wake up in the middle of the night feeling very hot/flushed & my skin temperature is very high.

2. then I have to cool down by lower the room temperature or taking off my shirt and after a few minutes my skin temperature returns to normal & I am no longer feeling hot/flushed - then I can return to sleep without any problems

3. is this something to be concerned about?

Brief Answer:
Possible hyperthyroidism

Detailed Answer:
Dear sir, I have gone through your question and I understand your concerns .. hot flashes at night can be due to a number of causes , most of them are not to be concerned about such as increased alcohol or caffeine consumption or eating spicy foods during the day .. However I would recommend that you take a blood test to check on your thyroid hormonal profile including T3,T4 and TSH to exclude hyperthyroidism as a cause of the hot flashes you are experiencing . I hope you find this helpful ..

Brief Answer:
Low testosterone level can also be there

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,

If your thyroid hormonal profile is normal then I would recommend that you get a test of your blood level of testosterone... Deficiency of sex hormones as testosterone can lead to such hot flashes with or without heavy sweating in men...

I hope you find this helpful...

Kind regards

Brief Answer:
Food enhancer

Detailed Answer:
Dear sir ,

since you have excluded the common causes of hot flashes in men the this could be due to Monosodium glutamate (MSG) which is a flavor enhancer commonly added to Chinese food, canned vegetables, soups and processed meats. This enhancer causes symptoms that mimic those of hot flashes caused by low testosterone and abnormal thyroid hormone level.

I hope you find this helpful ..
