Brief Answer:
Best way to stop using Clonazepam is to taper the doses gradually

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for choosing HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. You are a 77 years old male and are using Clonazepam. Clonazepam is a benzodiazepine drug and abrupt stoppage of the drug after regular intake may result in withdrawal symptoms. So to prevenet withdrawal symptoms it is adivsable to reduce the doses of drug gradually over 6-8 weeks. Doses should be reduced by 20-25% every two weeks and can be totally stopped at end of 6-8 weeks.

You are taking 0.5-1 mg a day and if you want to stop using Clonazepam then best way is to taper the doses as I have mentioned over 6-8 weeks. Doses can be reduced by 0.125-0.25 mg every two weeks and then should be reduced progressively over 8 weeks. This way of reducing the doses will prevent any significant withdrawal symptoms. Discuss with your doctor before making any change in prescription.

Thanks, hope this helps you. Dont hesitate to ask again if you have more doubts in follow up question.
