different possible causes
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
There are two anti histamines in your medication list (levocetirzine and hydroxyzine), am assuming that this is related to the present intense itching or are they used for another ongoing allergy complaint, because may be related
Other causes of intense itching include: (1)infection such as scabies, this is quite common. The itching tends to be worse at night and in many persons a specific rash is not seen
It is treated by applying a medication (such as permethrin or lindane) which remains for few hours then removed. In some cases it needs to be reapplied
Bed linens and towels and other clothing are treated by washing in hot water and hot dryer or dry cleaning
(2)liver or kidney disease can also cause intense itching , blood tests would show if there are any problems with these areas and treatment would depend on the cause
(3)allergies
Many adults not commonly develop allergies to foods or drinks or other substances that they may have previously used but in those cases, a rash or wheals are usually present
(4)thyroid disease and iron deficiency- can also cause itching
Again these are detected via blood test.
It is mainly excess release of thyroid hormone (hyperthyroidism), that causes the itching to occur
In terms of the iron deficiency, even if the iron is not low enough to cause anemia (low blood count), itching can still occur due to the iron deficiency itself
(5)eczema
Rarely intense itching can be associated with more serious conditions
It would be best to be seen to determine the exact cause of your symptoms. It would require examination of the skin and in some cases, blood tests as well
Treatment depends on the cause found
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
