Question: Thank you, everyone, for helping. Things are very busy with getting health care and Christmas and my friend who needs help.

My friend went to see his doctor assigned to him. She gave him Flonase and Robitussin D. After my own research, I feel strongly that this was NOT a good answer. I had purchased him Mucinex, but because he lives in a social services facility, and because he was honest, they took away his Mucinex and gave him Flonase and Robitussin D. I looked up both on the internet and feel strongly that this was the wrong answer for him. He continues to bring up phlegm and spit. The doctor said that he has some congestion in his left lung. I am frustrated with what is happening to my friend.

* The prescribed medications in form of Flonase and Robitussin D are very
well and effective molecules for his condition with following explanations in
details.

* The Flonase is containing fluticasone - a known steroid used for ample
number of clinical conditions where there is acute inflammation in the
body and one requires quick results from the same.

* The Robitussin D is an expectorant with Guaifenesin content and it is
widely used for decreasing the common cold, congestion and allergic
issues as well.

* Mucinax also contains Guaifenesin with similar results as Robitussin D .

So far as your search regarding these molecules, under medical supervision they are quite safe, effective and sure way to control respiratory congestion issues ; so do not hesitate regarding side effects.

Please convey his care takers to get him in regular follow up consultation with his doc and let her handle the issue over a period of time for best clinical results ( do not predict very fast recovery for a long term condition ).

Hi Dr. XXXXXXX
My friend asked to go to the emergency room last night. I dropped him off. He got an ibuprofen and some other prescription.

Most of the people where he lives are talking bad about him because of his constant spitting. I am hoping to take him to urgent care today, but he has to find one that will accept his Access card. He told me that he has a deviated septum and that one lady he knew had a walnut seized tumor taken out of her nose and that made all the difference.

My friend is very uncomfortable, spitting all the time. I'm wondering what can be done to solve this spitting problem. As we were driving to the emergency room last night, he spit into a cup I gave him, and it was as if he were spitting about every 2 minutes, or more frequently.

We STILL don't have a list of the meds he is taking. Thank you for your constant communication. You are helping me to know that there is someone who cares. I care. I just don't know what to do.

* The issue about someone relieved by the removal of nose tumor is called as
nasal polyp with a deviated septum and helps in relieving repeated nasal
blockage and sinusitis condition ( not causing repeated spitting as
condition of your friend ).

Your friend requires an x-ray chest with a pulmonary function test (which are the gold standard investigations) to diagnose his condition and manage accordingly.

I doubt, why the ER fellow did not go for the evaluation and prescribed mere medicines only...

In such a condition, you can also think of making him hospitalized in a good set up with all consultant facilities and advanced nursing care and let him stay till he is diagnosed, treated and cured by his condition.

well, we went to the ER. He had chest x-rays. Seem to be OK. Blood tests OK. yet he is still bringing up phlegm and spitting. We got the doctor last night to write that it was OK for him to have over-the-counter drugs like Mucinex, because the place where he is living won't let him use it. But I just asked him by phone and he needs a prescription from a pharmacist.

He is still spitting and feels terrible. I hope to find him an ENT for today, this afternoon, in about 30 minutes. It's the wrong time of year, given that tomorrow is New Year's Eve. Thanks for your communication.

* I doubt whether ENT specialist will help to much extent for spitting, but let
us see what happens.

As I already had discussed a pulmonologist with pulmonary function test reveal the lung functions after normal chest x-ray.
By chance if that also turns out normal, then CT scan chest with contrast, diagnostic bronchoscopy or lung biopsy are next steps to be followed.

I know this is a long and cumbersome journey for you to help him, but sequence evaluation will only reveal his diagnosis over a period of time.

He and you both of you have to keep patience for this period as well.
