The Eyelids Of Both Of My Eyes, First One Eye

Question: The eyelids of both of my eyes, first one eye and then the second over a period of about 4-5 days, have become very swollen. When I first wake up, there is excessive tearing in both eyes, and now my eyes are becoming very red (I may have scratched one cornea). I am also now experiencing a dull headache, have had a brief period of about 30 minutes where my cheeks have started to tingle like they were going numb.

I plan to see an doctor ASAP, but I'm in Ecuador, and it is their biggest holiday weekend here, and no doctor may be available for me to call or see.

Is there something I can do on my own behalf to reduce the swelling and redness in my eyes? Or should I go to a hospital emergency room?

Brief Answer:
Allergic reaction of eyes.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
Having a photo of your eyes can help me better with diagnosis.
I think it may be an eye allergy according to your symptoms.
You can use oral antihistamines such benadryl or citerizine. Also you can find eye drops otc that are used for allergic eye.
You can wash them often with water.. Try to avoid the substances that cause it such dust or pollen or fumes etc.

Hope I have answered the question.

Thank you! That is a relief to hear, since I am unaccustomed to having any health issues.

I have purchased "Systane" gel eye drops. Systane contains Polietilenglicol 400 (0.4%) and Propilenglicol (0.3%.

Do you thing this will help or is it only for dry eyes?

Hello again,

Do you know if Zaditor is available in Ecuador? I'm visiting there right now. If it is not, then is there another brand that you can recommend? Does Zaditor contain "Pregnisol" (if I am spelling that correctly)?

If you don't know a specific brand that is available in Ecuador, do you know of specific active ingredients I should look for?

Thanks!

Brief Answer:
You can find it as Ketanol.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back,

Zaditor is composed of Ketotifen fumarate. In Ecuador, it is sold under the brand name of Ketanol.
It doesn't contain Prednisone or other corticosteroids.

Hope this helps
