Question: The inside of my lips feel like cotton balls for about six months. I was tested for Sjorgrens and it was negative. About one week ago the corners of my mouth cracked and are crusted. This morning I awoke with a swollen upper lip. I do not have a GP at present. I am considering going to Urgent Care tomorrow. Will this be effective or do I need to see a specialist?

Brief Answer:
Fungal infection of mouth

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
I think you may be suffering a fungal infection of mouth caused by candida albicans.
If you have poor fitting dentures or if your teeth are crooked and you don't bite correctly.
Also if you suffer from diabetes or vit B 12 or iron deficiency you are more likely to suffer from anular cheilitis.
You can use an antifungal cream such miconasole, clotrimazole, nystatin etc
Keep a good mouth hygiene and keep lesions dry.
Correct poor fitting dentures and anemia if present.
Don't need to see a specialist urgent doctor can help but better find a family doctor.

Hope I have answered the question.
