The Mother Is Seeing Sparks In Her Eyes. She Consulted
Question: The mother is seeing sparks in her eyes. She consulted an opthalmologist who suggested to undergo a laser surgery.
1) Is the laser surgery really required?
2) Does the flashes lead to thinning of the cornea?
3) What are the challenges which may occur due to the surgery? Does she need to cover her eyes? Can she cook?
Thanks,
Kishalay XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Yes she should have a laser
Detailed Answer:
hey thanks for the question. I saw your reports . the laser is for the retina and not related to cornea. It is not a surgery just an opd procedure and she can do her daily activities 3-4 hours after . There is no need to cover the eyes . She has an age related degeneation in the vitreous which is called pvd aka posterior vitreous detachment where the gel of the eye thins up and sometimes it can cause certain areas of holes and thinnings which need laser to seal them. Hope my answer helps you . Regards

Hi Doctor,
Thanks for your reply. Any after effects of the treatment she may face?
If she delays the surgery will it lead to complications later?
Thanks,

Brief Answer:
Yes sometimes a delay can cause complication
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the follow up As such laser doesnt have any side effects .Sometimes a delay can cause thinning to become a hole and lead to a detachment and once that occurs she will need a longer surgery and the results of detachment are never that good as we dont have a new retina we can just repair it and not replace it . Hope my answer helps you. Regards
