Question: To be answered by Dr. Prof. XXXXXXX Saha
Dr. Saha, this is Rosemarie Raia again. I have the swelling in my left foot and lower back pain. I have been going to the physical theerapy for the past several weeks but still have lower back and Left buttocks pain, strong. My left foot still becomes swollen and has numbness. My cardiologist said to take the furosemide 20 mg. every day instead of every other day which seemed to help but I have strong numbness in my foot. There is also cold feeling that runs down my leg sometimes. I went to a chiropractor who thinks he can help me. He also suggested that I see a spine doctor. Can you help me?

Dr. I forgot to tell you in addition to the numbness in my left foot, it feels like there is a wide rubber band tightening around it.
I dont know if you can see past communications but the lumbar spine x-ray said I have mild lumbar scoliosis, 6 mm retrolistjhesis L3 on L4 apppears stable; spondylolithesis L4 on L5; Multilevel disc space narrowing is present throughout spne; anterior osteophytes are seen from L1 to L3.

Brief Answer:
Methylcobalamine supplementation could help
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for using the Ask a Doctor service once again.
I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. Your blood pressure needs to be kept in control, else it could lead to the swelling of your feet. However, the numbness could be due to peripheral neuropathy (although the vertebral scoliosis and retrolisthesis possibly also have a role to play). I would need to ask you if you are a diabetic. Deficiency of Vitamin B12 could also give rise to such a presentation. Taking methylcobalamine (Vitamin B12) 1500 mcg supplement per day for at least a couple of weeks should help in improving the situation.
I need to ask you whether you are receiving physical therapy for your vertebral issues. This is very important.
Let me know if I could help further.
Regards

Dr. Saha, I am not a diabetic.
I showed the xray reports to the physical therapist, so I guess he is treating me for my vertebral issues.
What must be done for peripheral neuropathy and who or how do they diagnose it.
I will begin to take B-12 today. I will look for your answer and I will let you know what the physical therapist says.
I have been to the chiropractor two times now. He has done some minor adjustments. I was in a lot of pain over the weekend in my left buttocks and numbness and swelling in my left foot which has been going on since December. I saw the chiropractor Friday. He said I might feel sore for a while but to let him know anything more. I saw him again today. He said he should know in a month if he could help me. He wants me to see a spine specialist.

Brief Answer:
Thanks for writing back
Detailed Answer:
A neurologist can help you if you have peripheral neuropathy. However, as of now taking B12 supplements should suffice. A neurosurgeon or spine surgeon could help you with your vertebral column.
