Yes, the symptoms you are perceiving are the typical features of Laryngopharyngeal reflux.
The common symptoms include:
1. Sense of foreign body in the throat. This is secondary to burning of the throat mucosa by the acid reflux. Following which, there is swelling in the mucosa. The swollen mucosa gives the sensation of foreign body in the throat.
2. Feel like you cannot take deep breathe due to the irritation of the oesophageal mucosa when the acid regurgitates from the stomach. Seldom it may mimic the asthma.
3. Hoarseness, repeated hawking and post nasal drip or excess mucus in the throat are all some of the other common symptoms of laryngopharyngeal reflux.
4. In many, the symptoms worsen as the age progresses because of the weak diaphragm muscles and the weight gain.

Hi, doctor. One important symptom I forgot to mention which was concurrent with symptoms dovetailing with your diagnosis of Larygn. reflux is a loss of taste and smell. I did see my primary doctor about this and he suggested speaking with an ENT. (Anything to do with sinus has been ruled out) Just want to get your feedback on this since all symptoms (aforementioned in prior querys and loss of taste/smell) have been ongoing for approx. 4 months now and wondering if this, too, could in some way be related to your diagnosis or feel this is some other issue? Yes, loss of smell could affect the taste as well. Many a times people with nasal allergy would not be able to smell because of the obstruction of the air to the olfactory area inside the nose. Inflammatory changes in the olfactory nerves following chronic nasal allergy could affect the sense of smell.
A short course of oral steroids (to be avoided in the diabetics) may help in getting back the smell and taste to a certain extent. But the intranasal steroid sprays ( Fluticasone or Mometasone) are the best with negligible systemic side effects.

Hi, doctor. Just a quick clarification follow up question before embarking on oral steroids. The laryngopharyngeal reflux that I do have would not cause any loss of taste? Also, you mentioned that a nasal allergy may have that affect.
