Trying To Conceive. Taking Fluconazole For Candidiasis. Will It Effect The Baby If I Get Pregnant?
Category D drug in pregnancy
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the query.
Usually single dose of fluconazole for vaginal infection comes under category C drug in pregnancy.
But if fluconazole is taken for few days for skin infections, that comes under category D drug according to FDA.
So the possibility of fetal risk is there.
The possibility of pregnancy due to single act of intercourse is less.
Anyhow you wait for your expected date of periods.
If you miss the periods, go for blood test for pregnancy or wait for one week and go for urine pregnancy test.
If the test comes positive, consult gynecologist once and go for ultrasound.
Then if you want to continue the pregnancy, you have to continue with regular antenatal checkups and ultrasound examinations.
Ultrasound examinations at 11 to 12 weeks and TIFFA (Targeted imaging for fetal anomalies) scan at around 18 to 20 weeks are mandatory to detect any possible anomalies.
Hope I have answered your query. I will be available to answer followup queries. If you are satisfied with the answer, please give your review at the end of the discussion.
Take care.
