Twin Pregnancy. One Of The Fetus Having Enlarged Heart, Intestinal Abnormality And Smaller In Size. Survival Chances?
Question: My Daughter is 17 weeks pregnant with twins. She just called from having her ultrasound and is very distraught because baby "B" is much smaller than baby "A", has a severly enlarged heart, some sort of Intestinal abnormality and could have other issues. Baby "A" is just fine. Is it possible baby "B" will likely survive to full term?
Hi,
The chances of Baby 'B' surviving till full term are minimal.
As the Baby A increases in size, it takes most nutrients from the mother. It may so happen that the nutrient supply pipe (placental supply) to the Baby B is naturally cut off to support Baby A.
Nature takes its own action. Surprising is that the doctor have not detected till 17Weeks, it should be have been detected earlier. Is it not?
Hope the mother gives birth to healthy Baby.
