Question: Two days ago, I was on the golf course and felt a sharp pain in the back of my calf. At first, I thought I had been hit by a stray shot, but it was not the case. Immediately, my calf and back of knee swelled up considerably. I have iced and heated, but the swelling continues and I have great difficulty walking.

Brief Answer:
Muscle strain possible.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

I believe you had possibly a muscle strain due to overusing the calf muscles and fatigue.
It can be helpful to use ice compresses on the calf,. put it on rest as much as possible, keep the limb elevated.
Also you can use anti-inflammatory drugs such Advil to reduce pain and swelling.
You may need some days to get recovered and have your calf to normal function.

Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
