Question: Two days ago had a heart stent installed via catherization and have noticed mild shortness of breath the same day and continue two days later. Cardiologist said this some times happen as a side effect said call back if still one week later. I have not seen this ad a known side effect anywhere on the internet. No breathlessness under non exercise prior to the stent. Is this a known side effect or are they just saying that thinking it is just anxiety?

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome on - Ask a Doctor - service!

I passed carefully through your concern, and would like to explain that an uncomplicated coronary angioplasty with stenting should not be associated with shortness of breathing.

Coming to this point, it may be concluded that probably a complication may have happened.

This is further supported by the fact that shortness of breathing has not been present before, especially when no previous cardiac or pulmonary dysfunctions are known.

Coming to this point, I recommend you to discuss with your attending cardiologist about your complaint and on the opportunity of further diagnostic work up
to identify the exact cause.

Only when nothing is found could one conclude on anxiety.

You need to discuss with your doctor on this issue.

Hope to have been helpful to you!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
