ABDOMINAL INFECTION
Detailed Answer:
Hi...
Welcome to "Ask a Doctor" service.
I am Dr Ajeet XXXXXXX
I have gone through your query and here is my opinion.
The chicken allergy usually presents as sneezing, coryza, swollen lips, wheezing, rash, itching, hives, vomitings, pain abdomen.sore throat, difficulty in breathing and anaphylaxis.
Your symptoms resemble more to an abdominal infection.
The non vegetarian foods and eggs are a good culture media for the bacteria to grow.
Hence they get contaminated very easily.
Usual culprits are bacteria like salmonella, sheigella and E.coli.
You seem to have an unresolved infection so just complete the antibiotic course.
Take soft diet.
Keep yourself well hydrated.
If you have problem with non-veg foods then avoid them for a few days.
Restart them once your system is absolutely infection free.
Continue taking Paracetamol when you are febrile or feel feverish.
Take probiotics.
If the symptoms do not improve, consult a gastroenterologist.
Hope that I have answered your query.
If you have any doubts.please let me know.
Stay healthy.
Regards.
ABDOMINAL INFECTION
Detailed Answer:
Hi......
You have already taken an empiric antibiotic therapy for community-acquired diarrhea but you did not respond well.
Diarrhea caused by C. difficile can be seen in outpatients who have recently taken antibiotics.
I would suggest you....................
Trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole: 1 DS(Double strength) tablet PO bid
And simultaneously to cover C. difficile.....
Metronidazole: 500 PO thrice a day.
This needs to be taken for 5 to 7 days depending on the response you get.
For cramping from diarrhea, loperamide (Imodium) and bismuth are quite effective.
Acetaminophen (Tylenol) might be helpful for fever and body ache.Fever is due to inflammation of the intestines caused by infection.
Alcohol always adds to stomach upset and cause bloating so best avoided during illness.
Alcohol is not contraindicated with ofloxacin but some patients complain of upset stomach, headache and dizziness.
Taking alcohol during ornidazole therapy is a relative contraindication as it may result in a disulfiram -like reaction in some patients.
