Welcome to XXXXXXX Thanks for your query.
Reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome also called as Complex regional pain syndrome.
It is a rare disorder of the Sympathetic nervous system.
The exact cause of the disease is not fully understood, so is the treatment.
There are variety of conditions which may trigger RSD like
1. Injury
2. Surgery
3. Heart diseases
4. Degenerative arthritis conditions
5. Stroke and
6. Nerve irritations
are some among many.
So the treatment options are also many like
1. Physical therapy and exercise
2. Psychotherapy to relieve stress, anxiety and depression.
3. Sympathetic nerve blocks.
4. Surgery including Sympathectomy.
5. Spinal cord stimulation.
6. Intrathecal drug pumps.
7. Medications like topical analgesics, steroids, antidepressants, anti seizures and opioids.
So the treatment is based on the causative factor and the stage of the disease.
Hope the answer helps you.
