Posted on Thu, 5 Sep 2019
Question: Upon waking I have a brown, sticky film on my tongue (it presents as a line in the middle of the tongue from front to back) as well as on the roof of my mouth. Approximately one month ago my platelets were 675,000 and one week ago were 829,000. WBC 14.5, RBC 5.89, RDW 17.4. My question is what are the possible causes of the brown film? Thank you for your time.

Brief Answer:
Brown film on tongue is non-specific. Kindly post the CBC report.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.
Brown sticky film on tongue is not specific for any abnormality.
However, sticky film on tongue can form due to dryness of oral cavity, dehydration, consuming sticky food item, poor oral hygiene etc.
I suggest you to rinse your mouth with water, drink plenty of water and brush your teeth twice a day.
In the brown film still remains on tongue then I suggest you to consult your dental surgeon.
The blood counts show slightly increased platelet counts.
High platelet counts can be seen in infections and inflammation.
Red blood cell count and RDW is also increased.
Kindly, post your complete blood count (CBC) report for interpretation.

Thanks and take care
