We Have Recently Moved To An Apartment On The Atlantic

Question: We have recently moved to an apartment on the Atlantic coast in Florida. Several days ago, my wife was bitten on a finger by some sort of insect that caused a a bite on one of her fingers tht turned purple with a white center. First the finger swelled up and then her entire hand. We went to an urgent care provider who lanced the main bite, provided an antibiotic called clindamycin which eventually reduced the swelling. The main bite area is still open and raw. Several nights later, I also had an insect bite on a finger which is quite red and itchy, but not so swollen. Any ideas on what is causing this and what to do about it? There is a lot of wicker furniture in the bedroom which we have tried to shake out and clean, but no evidence of any insects or spiders.

Brief Answer:
Topical steroid antibiotic cream, antihistaminic; oral & topical antibiotic

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to ask a doctor service
I have gone through your query.
It is very difficult to comment on the nature of the insect causing the bite.
It could be a beetle or a spider.
I would recommend you to apply a cream containing combination of steroid and antibiotic like betamethasone and fusidic acid combination cream on the affected area twice daily and take antihistaminic like tablet cetrizine 10 mg once or twice daily depending on the intensity of itching for 7-10 days.
For your wife I would recommend a course of oral and topical antibiotics.
I would recommend her to take tablet cephalexin 500 mg twice daily and apply fusidic acid cream on the affected area twice daily for 5-7 days.
These are prescription drugs and you need to see the doctor in person to get them.
I hope to have answered your query and would be happy to any further questions.
Regards
Dr Asmeet
