Question: Welcome to 'Ask a Doctor'. Please type your question here...with covid 19 can you be well one hour & coughing a few hours later
Brief Answer:
Its possible with a mild corona
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Yes Covid-19 can cause intermittent coughing in mild cases, but its more likely to progress and cause a persistent cough especially in severe cases.
If its well one hour and coughing few hours later, its more likely another virus.
Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

I developed a slight cough during the course of yesterday
Brief Answer:
Its time to self isolate completely from everyone
Detailed Answer:
Hi again
I am assuming that you have no exposure to Covid, air pollution, smoke, dust etc. It is unlikely to be covid-19.
As per current situation, you will need to self-isolate completely in your room. Corona test may not be available for your symptoms in your area. Currently people are experiencing similar symptoms (that may be corona or flu, etc) and these symptoms are taking few weeks to get better.
Best approach is to self-isolate in a well-ventilated room for atleast 15 days and don't think much about Covid (keep busy in another work like helping people through this fear). Take all mentioned precautions for Covid. Soap is good disinfectant against coronavirus and other viruses so wash yourself and your clothes regularly with soap. Take adequate rest. Drink warm fluids and warm air. Avoid juices or sugary foods. Do some prayer or meditation to relieve anxiety. Don't worry as many people with Covid symptoms are continuing to survive this phase. So you will be fine.
In rare case if you develop breathing difficulty or chest congestion, you may get a transcript of antibiotic like amoxicillin or anti-virals from your doctor. That time further tests maybe done.

What about water
Brief Answer:
It is difficult to determine source of infection
Detailed Answer:
Hi
It is difficult to determine source of infection as the infection lies inside airways and gut. So people having this virus maybe walking around normally. It can also survive on surfaces e.g at grocery stores. That is why social distancing from everyone and stay at home. We are not sharing food and water bottles also. Basically we are trying to control spread of the virus.
Drinking water should be filtered, boiled. Drink warm water to dissolve the mucous in airways. You can also drink tea for some days as it helps in breathing better- boil some ginger, fennel seeds, black pepper and tea leaves in water and then add some milk. Avoid adding sugar or let it be minimal.

What medication should I take
Brief Answer:
Currently cough suppressant not needed
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Currently you have only cough and it is protective as it expels the germs out of your airways. So I will not advise any medicine for now.
If it gets worse or difficulty in breathing then antibiotics like amoxicillin or antivirals and bronchodilators like salmeterol inhalers maybe needed.
For now just let your immunity fight this problem.
