What Are Pentoxifylline, Atorvastatin And Lasix Prescribed For?
Question: Why would somebody be takeing Pentoxifylline 400mg. 3times a day, Dilt-Rx 120mg 1 a day ,Lasix 20 mg. 1 a day,Bisoprotol 5 mg. 2 a day, Atorvastatin 40 mg. 2 a day, Omeprazole Magn. 20 mg. 1 a day, Losartin 5 mg. 1 a day. This is for my brother who is now on a ventalator in ICU. Please tell me what the problem is

Although it would be difficult to comment by only looking at the medicines but i will try to give you a differential. Most common uses of medications given to your brother includes:
1. Pentoxifylline 400mg - Given for intermittent claudication to reduce pain and cramping. It also works by making red blood cells more flexible, which helps to improve blood flow.
2. Dilt-Rx along with lasix & Bisoprolol are given to reduce blood pressure(given to hypertensive patient).
3. Atorvastatin is given to lower the body cholesterol levels.
4. Omeprazole Magn is given to protect stomach lining from acid and the medications. It is usually given when strong medications are prescribed.
5. Losartan is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It is also used to lower the risk of stroke in certain people with heart disease. It also slow long-term kidney damage in people with diabetes.
Judging from the medications given, most common differential diagnosis includes ischemic heart disease & hypertension leading to CVA (stroke). You need to once meet your brother's treating doctor for further confirmation as he will be having all details including ongoing lab tests.
