Posted on 1 day ago
Question: Hi
Recently I had a XXXXXXX encounter with a known person, oral sex and he rubbed his pennis to my pennis and ejaculated near to my pennis. He said, recently he did donate blood to his friend but never checked himself for HIV and STD. I am worried about his status, he looks very healthy with well-gym built personality. I assumed that since he has denoted blood to his colleague very recently. I moved ahead with encounter. Please guide me through this.

Brief Answer:
Your HIV risk is low.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
Oral sex carries low risk for HIV transmission when compared to anal and vaginal sex. Rubbing the penis and ejaculation near your penis carries a negligible risk only.
As he recently donated blood, we can assume that your partner is likely to be HIV free. But if they found the donor blood is reactive for HIV, they simply discard the blood and not informed the donor and the recipient would be given some other safe blood.
Another possibility, your partner, would have remained in widow period for HIV during the time of donating blood and his blood would have been transfused without knowingly, is also possible.
Healthy appearance does not give any guarantee for the one to be free from HIV infection as during early stages the HIV positive people remain healthy as anyone (up to 5 to 10 years).
It will be safe to get examined for HIV after the window period.

Thank you Doctor.
I got this doubt because after nearly 1.5 weeks of the encounter i got slight fever and throat pain. This is due to weather change, since people surrounding to me have also got similar symptoms. This peaked my fear.

Brief Answer:
Your symptoms are unlikely to be due to HIV infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
As you rightly pointed out, fever and sore throat are the commonest problems, one can have at any circumstances due to various risk factors of our day today life, not to bother about this spell of fever and sore throat. Moreover, in HIV infection, the earliest symptoms (primary infection or acute infection) can occur only 4- 6 weeks after the risky activities and not earlier.
Anyhow, it is always better to have HIV test 12 weeks after this incident to be more confident about your safety from HIV infection.
