What Are Chances Of Recurrence Of Rectal Cancer?

Question: My wife was treated two years back from rectal cancer 9cm from the anal verge stage T2N0M0 by doing surgery using LAR technique . They sampled 27 LN and all are negative. The preoperative CEA was 2.2 . What is the percentage of having a recurrence provided that she is under follow up now every six months .
Brief Answer:
recurrence rate is quite low
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.
You have not stated the grade of tumor. Assuming that it was low grade (well differentiated) and a stage I disease (T2N0), the outlook is quite good. 5-10% recurrences do happen but good followup can detect them early.
Even if it is high grade recurrence rates may be only slightly higher.
Hope I have answered your query. I will be available to answer further followup queries, if any.
