Brief Answer:
There are many ways of handling an increased SGPT level.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

I am Dr. Neel Kudchadkar and I will help you now. I have analyzed your question and have a very practical solution to propose. Read carefully.

You need to care about your SGPT levels. Care, but not that much. So, please don't worry.

The picture that your reports show us is that while the rest of your enzymes are within range, your SGPT level is on the higher side. There are some reasons for this. Perhaps, you might be having a sub clinical hepatitis. I would recommend blood tests. Please get these tests done to detect any viral infections of the liver. I would not be worried if you indeed had hepatitis, because we have some pretty effective anti viral medications nowadays. Like those for hepatitis C.

Are you taking any drugs like Bruffen, Acenac as a painkiller on a regular basis? Some other medicines for other conditions? This also causes an increase in SGPT. If so, please consult your doctor for a change in medication or a drug holiday, if possible.

How would you characterize your weight? Is it on the heavier side? Since obesity affects SGPT readings, you might want to take some steps in slimming down, if you are over weight.

Are you a diabetic? These are some important things we have to take a look at.

If a person, who happens to regularly drink alcohol, comes up with an SGPT that is on the higher side, we find that we are most correct in the diagnosis when we take the circumstances into account. So, we say that rare and serious diseases are not the problem with the patient, but the problem lies with intake of alcohol.

Even if it 2 to 3 times a month, it may be binge drinking, with sufficient force to cause damage.

To be on the safe side, rather than sorry, why don't we eliminate alcohol?

Before you can stop drinking, you must read some good material on how to do this. I suggest that "AA" groups which are online on the internet will give you the best emotional support 24 hours, without taking any payment. I can ask you to take drugs like Disulfiram, Naltrexone and Tianeptine to stop your alcohol intake. You will stop temporarily, and once you stop taking such medicines you will feel like drinking again.

In my 10 years of experience, I find that "AA" suport groups are the best cure for a life time. This approach has no side effects and neither does it cost time, effort or money. You just need to have a sincere desire to stop drinking.

I am positive this will help you.

Thanks for asking,
