What Are Nasal Block In The Right Nostril, Intermittent Ears Blockage Along With Ticking Sound And Occasional Nasal Breathing Difficulty Indicative Of?
I have been having nasal block (right nose mostly) and also my ears also open and close with the tick tick sound. My nasal block happens when I am in a closed atmosphere and during night time when I sleep with airconditioning on. I have also noticed it while I am in crowded mall or a theatre. Sometimes I have to breath through my mouth.
Allergic rhinitis probably...
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting the query..
After going through the query, I am of the opinion that you could be having allergic rhinitis. The blocking of the nose following exposure to cold or dust is the typical feature of the allergic nasal condition. The crackling noise perceived in the ear is secondary to the blockage of the Eustachian tube (the tube connecting nose and the ear).
The following measures will help you to overcome the problem:
1. Xylometazoline nasal spray for not more than 5 days
2. A potent intranasal steroid spray
3. Steam inhalation thrice daily
4. Drinking frequent sips of warm water
5. Avoid chilled food and beverages, coffee and smoking (if any). Avoid sleeping in front of the A/C blower and exposure to smoke.
With these above measures, you should feel better.
Hope this answers your query; I will be available for the follow-up queries.

Many thanks for your response.
In my earlier question, I missed out the medications i have had which are :
1. Fluticasone 2 weeks. (there was relief when I had taken this, but when I stopped the symptomes recurred.)
2. Mometasone (metaspray) for almost 1 month. I have also taken montelukast for the same duration. It again gave relief for the period i took them only.
Can i get the following medicines proposed by you over the counter. I am based in middle east.
1. Xylometazoline nasal spray for not more than 5 days
2. A potent intranasal steroid spray - can I get a name for this medicine, and how long should I take this.
I recently noticed that when I place a basin of water inside the room while using aircon , the nasal block reduces and nostrils open up more.
Will using a humidifier help in this case? Please advise.
Xylometazoline and Intranasal steroid sprays are available over the counter
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing back
1. Fluticasone and Mometasone are intranasal steroid sprays. You can use either of them, but, for at least 5-6months and gradually tapering down the dose before stopping the medicine.
2. Xylometazoline and Steroid nasal sprays are available over the counter.
3. Yes, the humidifier is definitely going to help you and prevent the dryness of the nose and congestion.
Hope this clarifies your doubts. Wish you good health.

Thanks for your response.
Could you please advise the dosage for both Xylometazoline and steroid nasal sprays. Can I take Mometasone as steroid nasal spray?
Also, can I ask if there would be any side effects by taking Mometason for 5-6 months?
Doctor you had advised "The crackling noise perceived in the ear is secondary to the blockage of the Eustachian tube (the tube connecting nose and the ear)". What would be the treatment required for this doctor?
Thanks a lot for your valuable advice
Xylometazoline should be used 3 times a day for 5 days
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome back
1. Xylometazoline should be used 3 times a day for not more than 5 days. Steroid nasal spray should be used 2 puff once a day in the morning only, for at least 3-4 months; gently tapering the dose before stopping the medicine.
2. Yes you can use mometasone.
3. Steam inhalation and the above 2 sprays are sufficient enough to open up the Eustachian tube block.
Hope this clarifies your doubts. Wish you good health.
