What Are Sjogren's Syndrome Symptoms ?
See below!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disease that often starts with dry eyes and dry mouth. This is because the disease damages the glands that produce secretions to keep these organs moistened. It is more common in women over 40 years. it often accompanies some other autoimmune disease conditions like rheumathoid arthritis.
As other autoimmune disease, it progressively affects many other organs of the body like the kidneys, liver, lungs, skin, nerve, etc.
Diagnosis is mainly clinical and a few non invasive tests that document a marked reduction the quantities of tears, saliva, etc. More invasive testing like biopsies can be done as well if need be.
Treatment is mainly aimed at addressing the symptoms so that clients can live with minimal discomfort. For example, you may be provided with artificial tears to keep the eyes moistened!
