Question: I wear diapers for IBS and have what seems to be a blistery rash. Like painful small pimples. Ive never had a diaper rash like this before. Although its lower down my legs than where the diaper leg gathers are. Attched a picture. Any thoughts?
Brief Answer:
Blistery painful rashes are specific for herpes.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for asking HCM.
I have gone through your query. Blistery painful rashes are specific for genital herpes. But diaper rash which is allergic also can come like that. So avoid using diapers and give good aeration.
You can apply calamine lotion locally and take over the counter antihistamines like benadryl. Avoid soaps and irritants to wash the area. Instead you can use saline or warm water.
If the rashes still spread and painful then go for HSV 1 and 2 blood tests to rule out herpes.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
If rash is not there on diaper line then diaper rash is most unlikely.
Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.
Thank you for your follow up query.
If there is no rashes present on diaper used area then diaper rash is most unlikely. In such case you can continue using diaper. In case of genital herpes you can apply aloe vera gel and acyclovir cream. Better to rule out herpes by running herpes 1 and 2 blood test.
Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.

Ho again. Thank you for your help. How could i contract herpes in such an area without sexual intercourse or coming intoncontact with anorher infected person? Ive been with my partner for 2.5 years, and in that time neither of us have had sexual intercourse outside of each other. Also, ive not had any symptoms related to herpes other than the rash. No fever, or flu like symptoms. I feel great! And even though the rash isnt on the diapered area, it IS in an area where the diaper sags when wet and or messy and rubs on my legs. Is there any creams you would reccomend? Ive been using ectra strength desitin. But i also have some mupirocin from a bacterial infection from a really bad diaper rash one time... This looks nothing like that rash did (thank goodness). Thanks again for your help! I attached 2 more pictures now that its daytime here. Not sure if yoi can really see them much better. Also, i feel theyre better than a week ago or so, but still feel irritation when the diaper rubs on them
Brief Answer:
Rash looks like that of herpes.

Thank you for your follow up query.
I have gone through your pictures. It looks like that of herpes. Herpes usually transmits by bodily contact. it can stay in the body for long time with out giving any clinical symptoms and can come out when the immunity becomes low. The virus won't survive out side environment. So a spread from toilet seat is most unlikely. Flu like symptoms and fever are not must in genital herpes.
You can apply aloe vera gel. Mupirocin can be used if pustules persist. Better to avoid diaper if possible.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
