What Are Symptoms Of Genital Herpes?
Question: I have herpes, I think I've had it for over 35 yrs but that's another story. I think I had one outbreak literally 34 yrs ago. Anyway I have a pimple on my penis that seems to be a white head. There are other pimple like things but they aren't even bumps and I've always had them. I'm worried about what I started feeling last week, 1 pimple that seems to be a bit hard like a black head on the base of my penis. Its been a week that its been there, I took a picture of it and can send it to you if you'd like. I'm wondering if its a herpes outbreak?
Brief Answer:
Not herpes genitalis.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I understand from your query that you are having lesions on your penis and are wondering if they could be an outbreak of genital herpes.
I have seen the picture that you have attached.
The lesions do not appear to be genital herpes. They look like enlarged sebaceous glands ( oil glands) which is quite common in that area. Do not worry. They need no treatment and can be left alone. In many cases, they tend to disappear spontaneously with time.
Hope this clears your query.
If you have any more doubts, I will be glad to answer.
Take care.

I'm curious. As I said I've never had a break out except possibly once well over 30 years ago and even then I'm not sure. At the time there were 2 open sores that might have been a break out. I was diagnosed several yrs ago with herpes and I didn't realize I had it until I thought back to my x wife who said she had it when we were 20 yrs old. Anyway other than that time over 30 yrs ago I've never had a break out, nothing. why is that ? is that usual?
Brief Answer:
Herpes genitalis recurrences
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
From your description, the sores which you had many years back might or might not have been herpes genitalis. If you want to detect a previous genital herpes infection, you could get a blood test done for HSV 2 IgG. A positive test indicates that the person has had an episode in the past and it does not signify anything more.
Having said that, assuming you did have a genital herpes infection in the past, the reason why it has not recurred could be many. A lot of factors determine a recurrent episode of herpes. The most important factor is the immune status of an individual.
If you have been maintaining a considerable good health and a healthy lifestyle, you may not have any outbreaks at all.
Hope this helps you.
Take care and wish you good health.
