Brief Answer:
swelling with coughing/lifting/straining, pain at the site

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

The main symptom and sign of an inguinal hernia is the presence of a mass which in the inguinal region.
The mass is more likely to appear with coughing, lifting heavy objects, straining with bowel movements etc

A mass would appear in the groin/inguinal area on these occasions, in most persons it would go back down on its own or with a little help.

There may be some pain or burning in the inguinal/groin region when the hernia appears

If the pain is severe and worsening or the swelling is not going done, then you should be seen because surgery may be needed.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
