What Are The Chances For Withdrawal Symptoms In Child When Mothers Is On Vicodin?

Question: I've been on vicodan for several yrs but for the past year only 1 (10mg) or half of one for the past 2 months ( only 5 mg). I am going to be induced 4/10/15 and I took 5 mg today. What are the chances my baby will have withdrawals? I've had all good checkups and she's already almost 8 lbs they think. Thanks.
Brief Answer:
chances of withdrawal present.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
I can understand your concerns.
Since you have been taking vicodin from long, there is a definite risk that baby can experience withdrawal symptoms.
It’s generally estimated that 55% to 90% of babies born to mothers who are chronic opioid mothers will struggle with withdrawal.
Babies have a constant, high-pitched cry, sensitivity to lights and sounds, and easily get agitated. Other symptoms include rashes, vomiting, and diarrhea.
The good thing is that all check-ups are normal and baby's weight sounds to be fine. But Pediatrician's supervision would be extremely essential for your newborn.
Hope this helps.
I wish you good health.
Thanks.

Others have said just a 2% chance though? I've gotten so much conflicting info.
Brief Answer:
2% risk of classical NAS.
Detailed Answer:
Dear,
In my opinion, the figure (2%) which you are mentioning is the data for classical neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS).
The figure(55-90%) which I mentioned is about any kind of withdrawal symptoms which the child may develop.
You have been taking a low dose (5mg of vicodin) now but your use has been long term.
So, the risk of withdrawal are high and baby should be carefully monitored to ensure his safety and good health.
Hope this clears your confusion.
I wish you well.
Thanks.
