What Are The Chances Of HIV After Protected Sex And Oral Sex?

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Jun 2015
Question: I had protected sex with a condom and unprotected oral sex and kissing with a female escort. Hours after I started to feel body muscle aches, sore joints, fatigued and malaise feeling. The first night I was sweating too. I started taking a lot of natural supplements after the symptoms and it has gotten better by the third day. I know that to diagnose the symptoms it's best to consult with a doctor and take some tests but in your expert opinion does it sound like I had contracted something from the event?
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Probably it is your anxiety or a mild flu attack

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. Your symptoms are most likely to be due to anxiety arising from the incident or another possibility might be a flu attack.

2. No sexually transmitted infection like HIV and other STDs will cause symptoms within hours of a sexual contact. Even in the most acute presentation of HIV associated infection the symptoms appear only after an incubation periods of two weeks. Since your symptoms started within hours therefore acute HIV is not a possibility.

3. If the body muscle aches, sore joints, fatigued and malaise feeling then it can also be a flu since there is improvement in 3 days time. Sweating can also happen during a flu attack.

4. Anxiety is a very important cause of discomfort and weakness in people who have participated in sexual activity with a person like an escort. This happens due to uncertainty and a sense of restlessness due to disease awareness.

5. If you are feeling better and you had complete protected sexual intercourse then there is no need to fear HIV and STDs. Oral sex has an extremely less chance of transmission of STDs and HIV. Should you have recurrent symptoms then you might consider consulting a doctor and getting tested for HIV and other tests for peace of mind.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
