What Are The Chances Of Hep B Infection Transmission Through Non Penetrative Sex?

Question: Dear Doctor,

A couple of weeks ago, I received a handjob with saliva as a lubricant from a lady with unknown status. Two hours after this incident, I thoroughly wash my penis region. This is my first risky experience and I would like to know if this puts me at risk Hepatitis B. I would appreciate your kind assessment. I don't recall having taken the Hepititis B vaccine when I was younger. Two days after the incident my primary physician gave me the first dose of the vaccine. I understand the vaccines need to be provided in multiple doses,

Thank you!

Brief Answer:
risk is almost nil if no abrasion or cut.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for query.I am Dr Bharatesh D Basti answering your query.
Though Saliva can have hepatitis B virus the chances of transmission by kiss is rare. Deep kiss, there are some chances, if saliva of the partner is infected and if there are abrasions or cuts or wounds in the massaged or hand job area - there are minor chances of hep B transmission otherwise chances are almost nil.
HepB vaccination in adults usually given 1 month and 6 months after 1 st dose.3 doses are given.

Dear Doctor,

I am uncircumcised, but there were not bistable cuts or sores. The lady's rubbing was brief and gentle. The only thing is that I was unable to wash myself for two hours

Dear Doctor,

In terms of testing, when and what kind of test should I get? What is the good testing window?

Currently I am having some gastro issues including grumbling stomach, gas, but I think this is because of the extreme stress/depression from the past two weeks of thinking. Everyone knows I am acting not my usual happy, talkative, funny, etc.

Please advise sir.

God bless you!

Brief Answer:
gastritis.Go for baseline test now.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for follow up qyery.
The symptoms may be due to gastritis .it may be due to stress or anxiety.avoid carbonated drinks. Take antacid chewable or syrup.
Take antihistamines like ranitidine.
I do not see any need for investigation for hepatitis B.
You can go for baseline tests of antigens and antibodies for hepatitis B now , since you are exposed weeks back and you have also received vaccination. You can get retested if any doubt or symptoms develop again after 6 months.
You can get back for any clarification else close the discussion and rate.
Thank you

Sir,

This took place on Oct 18, about two weeks ago. Is it not too early for testing?

At which time, may testing for potential exposure/infection be conclusive? Is that 6 months?

Would you say chances of me getting HBV
are low?

Thank you again sir!

after 6 months.

Hi
Thank you for follow up query
As you are not at risk, and already vaccinated you can go for testing after 6 months .earlier if any symptoms which is unlikely

My Dear Doctor Sir.

First thank you so much for your prompt responses. Second are you saying that the first dose of Hepititis B vaccine given two days after the possible exposure reduces my risk of getting Heptitis B?

My best regards and may god bless you!

Brief Answer:
vaccine does not protect immediately.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for query.
HepB Vaccine may protect to some extent post exposure .it takes time for antibody formation. hepatitis b specific immunoglobulins are given within 48 hours post exposure as prophylaxis which is unlikely to be given here as beyond 2 days .
Vaccine may alter the test results hence better undertake tests later.
You need not worry about hepatitis b as you are at least risk .you allay fears and forget episode .
Just casually get tested after 6 months.
You can get back for any clarification
Thank you
Dr Bharatesh
