Question: Hello Doctor, My wife is suffering from Thyroid. She is under medication and it is under full control now. But My wife has very irregular periods. Some time it takes 2 to 3 months to complete menstrual cycle. We are planning for 2nd child now. So We would like to predict ovulate days or fertile days for sexual intercourse which can help improve fertility. Can you suggest if there is any medicine to have regular cycle or any method to predict the days? Thanks.

Brief Answer:
OC pills and follicular study helps.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Sir.

I can certainly understand your concern.

Menstrual abnormalities are common in hypothyroidism and take a while to normalize in spite of pro-thyroid therapy with normal thyroid function.

Your wife needs a combination of OC( oral contraceptive pills) for a short course about 3 months to regularize the cycles.

once the cycles are regularized, she needs to go for serial follicular ultrasound study which can accurately predict the day of the ovulation to plan the sexual activity accordingly in order to conceive children.

This is the standard way of management and results are good which follow a natural/synchronized pattern of a normal cycle.

Understand special circumstances, she can be given ovulation inducing drugs to bring about ovulation at the specified time in the cycle.

Post your further queries if any.
Thank you
