default
Posted on Tue, 21 Jul 2015
Question: Hi I have a question about Hepatitis B. I slept with a woman having unprotected sex two days ago and found out she had previously been diagnosed with hepatitis B. Can I get an immediate vaccination or something to boost my immune system to fight off possible infection?

Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

if you've been vaccinated in the past but haven't ever checked your AntiHBs titers, you should receive a booster dose of the vaccine.
If are receiving vaccination but have not completed it, then you should receive the hepatitis B immunoglobulin.
Finally, people who haven't received vaccination in the past, should receive both the vaccine (3 doses at 0,1 and 6 months) and the immunoglobulin (injected in a different site) as soon as possible (preferably in less than 24 hours). The immunoglobulin is indicated as prophylaxis against sexual transmission for up to 14 days after sexual exposure. The faster it is given, the better the protection.

Kind Regards!

Brief Answer:
I made some suggestions

Detailed Answer:
I don't practice in your area. I would suggest you to do an Internet search. Alternatively you can ask your pharmacist. The pharmacist will probably know a physician very close to you. Finally a visit to the ER could be helpful.

Kind regards!
