What Are The Chances Of Having Twins With Two Eggs Released During Ovulation?

default
Posted on Tue, 28 Jul 2015
Question: Hi,
I always have regular periods but since 2 months my cycle is getting delayed!! My last period was on 17/6/15 it was 2 weeks late.

Today iwent for an ultrasound to check on everything they told me that i have 2 follicles relased this month!! One on each side right is 22 left is 18 in size. The lining is thin.

I never had 2 eggs to be relased in a month. What do you think if i had intercourse is there a chance to get pregnant with twins or do you think the 18 sized egg is just there from the last cycle??

Notes:
I already have 2 boys (3years old and 1.5yrs old)
And im not using and conceptions

Please let me know as soon as possible becuase they told me the eggs are about to be released.

Thank you in advance

Brief Answer:
It is possible that you have developed two eggs in this month.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.

It is possible that you have developed two eggs in this month. It is unlikely that the 18mm follicle is there from last cycle. You can confirm whether both eggs are released or not by repeating the ultrasound after 3- 4 days. If the eggs are released these follicles will be collapsed.

There is a chance of conceiving twins if you had intercourse.
You have mentioned that lining is thin. What is the measurement? If it is 7mm or more, then the chances of conception are more.

I hope this helps.

If you have further queries, I will be happy to answer.
With best wishes,
Dr Rama

Thank you for your prompt reply.
Do you think that these sizes of follicles can be fertelized? I mean 18 and 22?

And when do i have to have the intercouse ? As my cycle is irregular i dont know when is ovulation!!
If they r still follicules when do u think they will be through the tube?
And how many time to have intercourse to increase the chance?

Last period 17/6/15

Brief Answer:
Having sex on alternate days starting from today is important.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.

Yes these size follicles can be fertilized. Having sex on alternate day starting from today is important.

The two follicles may release egg anytime within 2 days.
Once egg is released it remains alive for 24 hours. So it should be fertilized within that time. Sperms remain alive for about 5 days in a woman's body. I have written this information as you may find it useful.
I hope this helps.
If you further queries, I will be happy to answer.
