What Are The Chances Of Healthy Pregnancy Using The IVF?
Question: I was talking to a dr in here about getting pregnant at age 46 with IVF using my own eggs. He lead me to believe I have an over 20% chance of birthing a healthy baby. Now I have researched, and I am hearing that the entire process, full term healthy, with my eggs is maybe only 1-2% chance. What is it?
Brief Answer:
Chances are only figures, individual properties to consider...
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
You are searching to get pregnant at age of 46 with IVF using your own eggs.
The statistics given are after general research conducted. Individual properties are to consider too.
When it comes to IVF, the scope is to reach a healthy full term baby; this is what we consider a success. All efforts are done to accomplish this goal.
Now, there are many factors influencing such success including:
- age of the egg donor : the younger the better
- lifestyle and diet regimen of the donor
If you have started a treatment, I advise to continue and be in close contact with your OG specialist. Pray God for the success!
Good luck!

Ok
But I still may consider a donor egg versus try with my own. They told me that is a 60-70% chance.
So with my eggs, and at 46 and 4 mos of age, and a sperm from 46 year old healthy husband. What are my chances? I have heard mixed opinions

Generally speaking, you have less than 60% of chances...

Hi back,
If you try with your own eggs, there are less than 60% of chances.
Once again, these are only statistics, close observation of eggs production is needed to decide if it is worth getting pregnant by using your eggs.
All the best!

Now I am even more confused. No one has said I'd have "less than 60% chance". I mean, that sounds very high based on all I've been told
Please give me a better answer than under 60%?

Hi back my dear,
Sorry for the delay due to my clinic duties. I am also sorry for the confusion caused. That is not my intention.
To be more specific and non-confusing:
- around 60% of chance is to get a healthy baby with donor's eggs
- the chances will get lower (even lower than 5%) to get a healthy baby with your own eggs.
However, once again these are only average statistics, and no body can give an exact percentage.
Let me know if I can be of further help!

Thank you. This is very helpful. It is in line with what I am hearing.
Is there any more health risk to me to do a donor egg vs my own?
If I harvest my own eggs, and try, how many times can I try? And how much time do I need between attempts ?

Hi back my dear,
To my personal opinion, you should try only once with your own eggs. If you fail, then, try with donor's eggs.
My opinion is based on your actual age: you do not have time to lose. The earlier you conceive, the higher the chances to give birth to a healthy child.
So,if your first attempt with your own eggs fails, then, discuss with your doctor for donor's eggs.
Hope it answered to your queries!
