What Are The Chances Of Miscarriage With IVF Treatment?
Question: Hi, I'm 42 years of age and I miscarried at 7 weeks. The pelvic ultrasound showed that I had no fetal heartbeat. I'm considering going the IVF route. What can a fertility clinic do to ensure that I won't miscarry again? I understand that I would be given progesterone, but would that guarantee a safe and healthy pregnancy given my age.

At the age of 42 a poor ovarian response and poor embryo implantation can cause IVF failure. Progesterone supplements will help in sustaining the pregnancy but these can be taken after a natural conception also. You can consult an IVF specialist and discuss the possibility of a healthy pregnancy after a few blood tests. Since you have conceived in natural way earlier also you can try the natural conception again.
